Cheney came accross as smart, well versed on his topics and actually kind of funny at times. More personable than many give him credit for.
Edwards came accross as kinda smarmy and didnt seem to be able to answer the questions he was asked. He seemed to be trying to distract the attention away whil Cheney was speaking. I swear I saw him stick his tongue out. He was just outmatched.
Truth be told, I dont think anyone who watched that could fel comfortable with Edwards 1 heartbeat away from the Oval Office.
I'd have to say Cheney kicked his butt!
That was a pretty good one with both defending their positions strongly and getting off a few zingers at the other. Overall, I'd give Cheney the edge.

But while watching the debate I found myself comparing him to Bush, not Edwards. While I suppose Cheney's knowledge should be reassuring, the contrast with Bush was disturbing in that it highlighted what a dumbass our President really is.Originally posted by LanDroid:

At least last night we didn't have to hear the words, "It's hard work."
And Cheney is not comfortable in such situations, he is not a good public speaker. I thought several times Edwards had a look on his face that even he didn't believe what he was saying. But I think overall Edwards did better than I thought he would. After seeing him speak at length he didn't appear to me quite the clown I have seen him as before. But I still don't like him. 4 more years!

The ability to speak in front of groups of people has nothing to do with anyone's abilities or intelligence.
Saying Bush is dumb because he can't speak in public, is as stupid as you saying I am gay because I know how to cook. Or me saying your straight because your not flaming.

I didn't learn anything new from Edwards, which made him appear to be a lightweight. He had his moments, but he seemed to rely on soundbites.
Cheney, on the other hand, could ramble on forever with facts and deep opinions. I don't necessarily agree with him, but there's no question he is substantive on the issues.
Side note: Cheney isn't a good speaker, and this is well known. But he managed to beat the eloquent Edwards, a trial lawyer.
